Chris Hughton has expressed his disappointment with the absence of defender Tariq Lamptey ahead of Ghana’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifiers clash with Angola.
Tariq Lamptey failed to recover in time from a knee injury and has been replaced by Kingsley Schindler who plies his trade with German side FC Cologne.
In a media encounter, the coach stated that Tariq Lamptey will be a big miss for us, but that is why we have a squad, we knew two weeks before that he might not make it so we were ready for this.
Tariq Lamptey has 4 caps for Ghana including three World Cup matches in Qatar 2022. He also made 20 match appearances for English Premier League side, Brighton and Hove Albion.
Also, goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott and center-back Mohammed Salisu are also injury doubts.
While Mohammed Salisu struggled with a knock in Southampton’s English Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspurs, Wollacot was involved in a freak training accident when the dummy goalpost fell on him.
Touching on Wollacott’s situation, the manager said Jojo Wollacott is fine, there was a fake post made to impersonate him, it was unfortunate but he is fine.
Speaking on Salisu he said Salisu is the only injury concern, he has had some issues over the last few weeks which is why he has not played as much over the last few weeks so we might have to consider his participation.
The game at the Baba Yara Stadium has been scheduled to kick off at 16:00GMT.
