Ghana winger Christian Atsu was in action for Newcastle United’s U-23 as they suffered a narrow defeat to Leeds United.
The 29-year-old made a rare appearance for the Premier League II side and was on target as they lost 2-1 to Leeds.
Atsu has been reinstated in the Magpies team for the rest of the premier league season, having missed the first round following his omission from the first-team squad.
The former Chelsea player’s contract is running down and could leave St James Park at the end of the season as a free agent.
Joseph Paul Gelhardt and Charlie Cresswell scored both Leeds goals before the half-hour mark. Atsu then grabbed the consolation two minutes to half time.
The diminutive winger last scored for Newcastle in their 3-2 defeat to Liverpool and has since struggled for first-team football.
Atsu attracted interests from Scottish giants Celtic during the winter transfer window but a deal could not be reached.
