Chulpan Nailevna Khamatova PAR is a Russian film, theater, and TV actress of Volga Tatar origin. Her name, Chulpan, means “morning star” in Tatar.
Khamatova has appeared in many German-language films, as well as numerous Russian feature films and TV series.
Her international fame is due to her role in Good Bye, Lenin! (2003), as Lara, the girlfriend of the main character and his mother’s nurse.
She was on the six-person jury that was led by Catherine Deneuve, at the Venice Film Festival in 2006.
She took part and become winner of the Channel One figure skating competition Ice Age in 2007 together with Roman Kostomarov (professional ice dancer).

Nail Khamatov and Marina Khamatova are her parents, they are both engineers. She has a younger brother who is also an actor called Shamil Nailevich Khamatov.
When she was a kid, she was involved in figure skating. From the eighth grade, she attended the mathematics school at the Kazan Federal University. She was admitted at the Kazan State Finance and Economics Institute, but later changed her mind and enrolled in Kazan Theater School.
Teachers Juno Kareva and Vadim Keshner assessed the potential of the actress who is just beginning her career as well as advising and assisting Chulpan to pursue studying in Moscow, and she enrolled in the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts and studied under Alexei Borodin.
