Cory Anthony Booker is an American politician, lawyer, and author. He was born on April 27, 1969. He has represented New Jersey as a junior senator since 2013. Booker, a Democrat, is the first African-American senator from New Jersey and represents that state in the Senate.
From 2006 until 2013, he served as Newark’s 38th mayor. From 1998 to 2002, he represented the Central Ward on the city council.
Booker was brought up in Harrington Park, New Jersey, after being born in Washington, D.C. He studied at Stanford University, where he earned his BA in 1991 and his master’s the following year. Prior to enrolling in Yale Law School, he received a Rhodes Scholarship to Queen’s College in Oxford.
He unsuccessfully campaigned for mayor in 2002, falling to incumbent Sharpe James. He ran again in 2006 and defeated Deputy Mayor Ronald Rice
