Dame Deborah James Parents: Mother, Father, Family Background

Dame Deborah Anne James was an English journalist, educator, podcast host, and charity campaigner from London.

She was diagnosed with incurable bowel cancer in 2016 and went on to host the You, Me and the Big C podcast on BBC Radio 5 Live about her struggles with her illness.

Deborah was a deputy head teacher specializing in computer science and e-learning at Salesian School, Chertsey, and later moved to the Matthew Arnold School in Staines-upon-Thames where she worked up until her diagnosis with bowel cancer.

She began working as a journalist and columnist for The Sun, detailing her cancer journey.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson described her as, “an absolute inspiration” and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said in a statement, “Deborah was an inspirational and unfalteringly brave woman whose legacy will live on.”

Deborah was born on October 1, 1981, in London, United Kingdom to her mother Heather, and father Alistair James.

Following the announcement of her passing, Dame Deborah’s mother Heather, also known as Bowelgran on Instagram, posted pictures of her late daughter posing and dancing in front of a sunset on her Instagram stories and captioned them, “My heart is broken.”

The podcaster’s family in a joint statement revealed that she had been an inspiration to them all.

“Deborah, who many of you will know as Bowelbabe, was an inspiration and we are incredibly proud of her and her work and commitment to charitable campaigning, fundraising and her endless efforts to raise awareness of cancer that touched so many lives”

Deborah died from cancer on June 28, 2022, at the age of 40.

Deborah is survived by her husband Sebastien Bowen and two children: a 14-year-old son Hugo and a daughter called Eloise, 12.
