David Birney Alzheimer’s: What Disease Did David Birney Have? David Edwin Birney was an American actor and director.

Born on April 23, 1939, Washington, D.C., United States, David career included performances in both contemporary and classical roles in theatre, film, and television.

He was noted for his role on Bridget Loves Bernie, portraying an interfaith marriage with Meredith Baxter, whom he was married to after the end of the series.

He also played the character of Dr. Ben Samuels in St. Elsewhere from 1982 to 1983.

Birney edited and adapted for stage the two-character play that was inspired by some of Mark Twain’s lesser work and letters.

The play was based on The Diaries of Adam and Eve by Mark Twain, The Diaries of Adam and Eve was telecast in the PBS series American Playhouse.

The play was later developed for stage productions, Birney directed and starred in regional theatre productions like The Hartford Stage (opening the Mark Twain Festival in Hartford) as well as The Capital Repertory Theatre, and on tour in performing arts centers across the country.

Another production, A Christmas Pudding, an evocative Christmas-themed collage of music poems, stories of the holiday season, was made available through Samuel French, Inc.

Birney had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, according to the December 2017 edition of the Wide Wide World newsletter for Dartmouth College class of 1961 graduates.

Despite his advanced age, his death was attributed to Alzheimer’s disease.

David Birney died on April 29, 2022, at his home in Santa Monica, California, at the age of 83. He was in a domestic partnership with Michele Roberge at the time of his death.
