Decision To Sack CK Akonnor Was Rushed, Unfortunate & Disappointing – John Paintsil
According to the former Fulham defender, CK Akonnor should have been given enough time to develop the team since he was on the right path to drive the team to victory.
Speaking on Citi FM in the aftermath of the sacking of CK Akonnor by the GFA, John Painstsil said CK Akonnor was not treated fairly by being sacked when he was trying very hard to qualify the Black Stars to the World Cup.
“It’s not a nice feeling, because when it happens to a coach, it’s as if it happened to all of us. However, this is the nature of a coach’s job; sometimes you get off to a good start, and sometimes you get off to a bad start.” He stated this in an interview with Eyewitness News.
“I would say it is unfortunate; this is not the right time for him; he should have been given more time to work on the team.
When you look at his statistics and what he’s done, it’s clear that he arrived at the wrong time and didn’t get enough time to camp the players before most of the games.
“It is very disappointing for me.”
CK Akonnor was appointed in January 2021 following the sacking of Coach James Kwasi Appiah. He took charge of 10 games, won 4, lost 4 and drew 2. The Ghana Football Association upon a review of his recent World Cup Qualifying match against South Africa which the team lost decided to show him the exit.
CK Akonnor was sacked together with his two assistants.
Meanwhile, CK Akoonor has expressed profound gratitude to President Akufo-Addo and Ghanaians for the opportunity to serve as the Head Coach of the Black Stars in a Thank You note. Read More Here
