He is an American former professional baseball player.
He played as a pitcher for the New York Yankees and New York Mets over a ten-year period.
Betances whose first language is Spanish used to go to baseball games with his family as a child, something that proved critical in his decision to choose baseball over basketball.
Betances attend high school at Progress High School where he played baseball. He committed to playing collegiate baseball for Vanderbilt University’s Vanderbilt Commodores but was enticed by a $1 million sign-on bonus from the New York Yankees who selected him in the eighth round of the draft.
Betances is a four-time All-Star.
