Born to West Indian immigrants in Bletchley, Buckinghamshire, England, Derek Redmond is a former British sprinter who specialized in the 400-meter dash.
Redmond has won championship gold in the 4 x 400 relay at the World and European championships.
After an injury-induced retirement, Redmond went on to play professional basketball for Birmingham Bullets and the England national team.
