How DeMarco Started His Restaurant Business
DeMarco moved from Caserta to Italy in the year 1959. He started Di Fara Pizza in 1965 along with his Business partner Farina. The name Di Fara comes from a combination of his business partners’ names. DeMarco bought out in the year 1978, but he kept his name.
DeMarco heavily influenced Brooklyn pizza, including younger pizzaiolos Mark Iacono of Lucali and Frank Pinello of Best Pizza. Iacono referred to De Marco as the “Joe DiMaggio of pizza”. Some have also referred to DeMarco as the”godfather of pizza. Many believe that Di Fara’s is to be the top pizza place within New York City.
In the year 2015, DeMarco got a hair cut in the pizzeria on his 79th birthday. The haircut was provided by Brian Girgus, a drummer, barbershop owner, as well as a “pizza freak” from Los Angeles.
