Donald Arthur Mattingly is an American former first baseman in professional baseball, coach, and current manager of the Miami Marlins in Major League Baseball. He was born on April 20, 1961.
Mattingly attended Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville, Indiana, and was chosen in the amateur draft by the Yankees in 1979.
He made his Major League Baseball debut with the Yankees in 1982 after playing four seasons in Minor League Baseball, and after a productive rookie year in 1983, he became the team’s primary first baseman.

The Mattinglys excelled in sports from an early age thanks to their father. Jerry earned all-state honors as he helped Rex Mundi High School to the 1964 IHSAA state basketball semifinals. He was recruited to play for the University of Evansville.
Randy began his college football career at Florida State University. He featured as a quarterback for the Aces and was a fourth-round draft choice of the Cleveland Browns in 1973.
