Young was married to the then Lula Fredson, she was one of the Gwich’in indigenous people. She was a volunteer as his manager in the Washington, D.C. congressional office. The couple had two daughters and are members of the Episcopal Church. Lula passed away on August 1, 2009, at the age of 67.
On the 17th of August 2014, Young declared his engagement to Anne Garland Walton, a flight nurse from Fairbanks. The couple got wed on the 9th of June 2015. She was 76 at the time.
Young was born on June 9, 1933, in Meridian, California, United States, and died on March 18, 2022, at the age of 88.
