Edward Thomas Butler was a Welsh rugby union player, journalist, and sports commentator who was born on 8 May 1957 in Newport, Wales.
Butler attended Monmouth School and Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, where he studied French and Spanish.
He won 16 caps for the Wales national team and scored two tries. Butler was an outspoken supporter of Welsh Independence.
He joined the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Radio Wales in 1984 as a press and publicity.
