Elena Kagan is an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. She was nominated by President Barack Obama on May 10, 2010, and has served since August 7, 2010. Kagan is the fourth woman to become a member of the Court.
She was born in April of 1960 and was the second of her parents’ three children. She has an older brother named Marc and a younger brother named Irving.

Marc Kagan was the first of three children born to Robert and Gloria Kagan. His mother worked as an elementary school teacher at Hunter College while his father had a career as an attorney, specializing in tenancy disputes.
He had a younger brother named Irving and a sister named Elena. Both Marc and Irving grew up in the state of New York. Their family lived in a third-floor apartment at West End Avenue and 75th Street.
They practiced Orthodox Judaism during their early childhood and attended Lincoln Square Synagogue.
