Elise Marie Stefanik is an American politician who has been serving as the U.S. representative for New York’s 21st congressional district since 2015.
Since 2021, Stefanik has been the chair of the House Republican Conference and is the third-ranking House Republican.
Stefanik, who is a member of the Republican Party district covers most of the North Country and Adirondacks, some of the outer suburbs of Utica and the Capital District in New York.
Stefanik was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2014, she was 30 at the time, becoming the youngest woman elected to Congress at the time.
Elise has shifted increasingly to the right, as she was initially elected as a moderate.
In May 2021, Stefanik was elected chair of the House Republican Conference after incumbent Liz Cheney was removed.

Elise Stefanik was born on July 2, 1984, in Albany, New York, to Melanie and Ken Stefanik. Her parents own Premium Plywood Products, a wholesale plywood distributor based in Guilderland Center.
Her father is of Czech descent and her mother is of Italian descent.
