Following two devastating aneurysms, Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke said that “quite a bit” of her brain is missing.
The actress previously disclosed that while filming the HBO series in 2011 and 2013, she underwent surgery for two brain aneurysms but recovered.
A blood vessel aneurysm is a bulge that develops due to a weakening in the vessel wall, typically where it branches.
Thankfully, she was able to recuperate and carry on with the work that means so much to her despite the illness that could have killed her. She is still dealing with some terrifying long-term ramifications, though.
“The amount of my brain that is no longer usable – it’s remarkable that I am able to speak, sometimes articulately, and live my life completely normally with absolutely no repercussions. I am in the really, really, really small minority of people that can survive that.”
“Because strokes, basically, as soon as any part of your brain doesn’t get blood for a second, it’s gone. And so the blood finds a different route to get around but then whatever bit it’s missing is therefore gone.”
