Enes Kanter Freedom is an American professional basketball player. He was born on May 20, 1992. He was brought up in Turkey after being born in Switzerland to Turkish parents, then immigrated to the US as a teenager.
The Utah Jazz picked Freedom with the third overall choice in the 2011 NBA Draft. Freedom who plays as a center has appeared for five different NBA clubs since his professional debut in 2011. He also featured for the Turkish national team in international competitions between 2008 and 2015.
Kanter played for the Fenerbahçe junior team under Serdar Apaydin from 2006 to 2008 before relocating to the United States. He was a seldom-used reserve for the Fenerbahçe senior team prompting him to look for more game time to enhance his development.

Enes Kanter’s parents are from Turkey. Mehmet Kanter, his father, earned his medical degree from the University of Zurich. Mehmet Kanter joined Trakya University as a professor of histology and genetics. His mother Gülsüm Kanter works as a nurse.
His father was detained and sentenced to 15 years in 2018.
