Erica Banks is an American rapper from DeSoto, Texas, who was born on October 5, 1998, in DeSoto, Texas, United States.
After the launch of her three mixtapes, she signed to 1501 Certified Entertainment, who released her self-titled mixtape in June 2020. It was the initial charting hit single “Buss It,” which became a hit on TikTok.
At the age of 12, Erica started writing poems, and won various school contests and then began performing raps during high school. While at Texas A&M University-Commerce for nursing studies, she began recording her first songs and eventually take a decision to quit at the end of her sophomore year to pursue a music career.
In the year 2018, Banks released her debut single called “Talk My Sh!t” independently via SoundCloud. On March 17, 2019, Banks released her first official mixtape, which was titled Art of the Hustle.
In April 2019, she signed to 1501 Certified Entertainment after playing a small portion of her track “Buss It” for the label’s CEO, American former baseball player Carl Crawford, in an Instagram Live video.
Even after she signed with 1501 Certified, the two mixtapes she released Pressure and Cocky On Purpose were then released by herself in the months of June and November that year.
On the 19th of June in 2020, Banks dropped her fourth self-titled mixtape, 1501 Certified. The mixtape led to the release of singles, which include a full version of “Buss It,” and “Give Me That.”
The latter becoming the breakout track for Banks in January 2021 following her becoming part of a popular phenomenon on video sharing platform TikTok which earned her an initial entry in the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In the exact month she also signed an album deal for her record label Warner Records. The following month, she was featured on American singer Yella Beezy’s track “Star”.
