The German actress and singer, Eva-Maria Hagen was born on 19 October 1934. Eva-Maria was known as “Brigitte Bardot of GDR”, but was sacked for political reasons.
She was born in Koltschen (present-day Poland). She joined the Berliner Ensemble in 1953 after completing an apprenticeship as a mechanist in 1952.
Hagen acted at the Maxim Gorki Theather in Berlin in 1958. Despite becoming a successful film actress, she was sidelined because of her relationship with Wolf Biermann.
In addition to her film and theatre, she built up a second career as a chanson singer.
Eva-Maria married Hans Oliva-Hagen in 1954 and they have a child named Nina Hagen.
