Former Ivory Coast midfielder, Yaya Toure has paid tribute to the late Ghana winger Christian Atsu who died in the devasting earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria.
Christian Atsu’s demise was confirmed on the morning of Saturday 17 February after his body was pulled out of the wreckage caused by the earthquake which took many lives.
Yaya Toure has expressed his condolences to Ghana forward in a post on his official Twitter account.
Atsu had been trapped under rubble for over 11 days before his lifeless body was discovered, with the category 7.8 earthquake claiming the lives of over 45,000 people.
The Ghana winger had scored his first goal for Hatayaspor a day before the natural disaster struck.
Atsu played 65 matches for Ghana, scoring nine goals during his career.
Two of his most well-known goals came in the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Egypt and in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, quarter-finals clash against Guinea, where he scored a stunning goal.
