Former Ghana International Yaw Preko Not Worried About Local Players’ Exclusion From Black Stars Call-up

Yaw Preko, a former Black Stars winger has said that he is unperturbed about the exclusion of locally based players from the twenty-five-man squad that has been named for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers against Angola.

The new Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton, on Thursday released a list of 25 players for the two-legged qualifiers against Angola. The list excluded seven players who made it to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The players who could not make it include Baba Rahman, Elisha Owusu, Daniel Kofi Kyereh, and Alidu Seidu could not make up the squad due to injuries.

While Danlad Ibrahim, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh were entirely dropped from the squad.
No local player has been named in the squad.

Reacting to the development on Oyerepa FM, Preko explained that the new coach has not watched the Ghana Premier League extensively to make an informed decision regarding players in the league.

He added that the local players need to raise their game and see how it goes and that he does not think Chris Hughton has watched the local league enough to be inviting local players.

Ghana will play host to Angola on March 23 at the Baba Yara Stadium before the reverse fixture in Luanda on March 27.
