Ghana coach Chris Hughton has expressed gratitude to Ghanaian supporters for their role in the Black Stars’ victory over Angola in the AFCON qualifiers.
The win is the first after the team lost to their South American rivals, Uruguay at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The group toping win over Angola came off at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday.
Antoine Semenyo’s last-ditch strike secured all three points for the Black Stars to set the reign of Chris Hughton on a winning note.
Chris Hughton took the opportunity during a postmatch press conference to praise the supporters for their role in the victory.
He said he would like to thank the people of Kumasi for creating an incredible atmosphere at the stadium.
The former Newcastle manager added that he had no doubts that the fact that Ghana scored the goal late, was a factor for the crowd that they had, and sent a thank you from himself and the players.
The Black Stars are currently the group leaders and will go into the return leg to consolidate their lead at the top to ensure they qualify for the 2023 AFCON with some two matches to spare.
The return leg is on Monday 27 March.
