Ghana’s legends Anthony Baffoe, Stephen Appiah, and Asamoah Gyan are at Niger’s capital Niamey in for the 2021 Gala de la Republique.
The football tournament of the year will be held on 17th December and the three are part of the legendary African footballers who were invited by the organisers to be part of the event.
The other players invited include Elhadj Diouf from Senegal, Nigeria’s Nwankwo Kanu, a player from Nigeria, Patrick Mboma of Cameroon, Ivorian Didier Drogba, and just recently named Cameroon FA President Samuel Eto’o.
The event is part of the republic day celebrations that fall on the 18th of December.
But, it’s the first time that the nation is assembling top football stars on the continent to entice fans.
Gala de la Republique aims to strengthen social cohesion national unity, and bring Niger more visible.
All the proceeds will be donated directly to the family members of those from members of Defense and Security Forces (FDS) who fell on the field of honor.
The event will be held in the General Seyni Kountche stadium.
