Ghana To Take Depleted Squad To South Africa For World Cup Qualifiers

The Black Stars of Ghana will travel to Johannesburg for the game against South Africa with a depleted squad.

The team will be without England and Germany based players due to travel restrictions by the associations of both countries.

The English FA and the German football federation have banned players playing in their leagues from traveling to red zone areas, which includes South Africa.

This means Daniel Amartey, Andy Yiadom, Baba Abdul Rahman and Jordan Ayew will not travel to South Africa. Daniel Kofi-Kyereh, who made his debut on Friday and Braydon Manu will also not go to South Africa.

Coach C.K Akonnor might be forced into making some drastic last minute decisions including fielding some local players against the Bafana Bafana.

Meanwhile, Ghana started the World Cup qualifiers on a winning note despite a hard-fought game at the Cape Coast stadium on Friday against Ethiopia.

Mubarak Wakaso’s long range strike beat the Ethiopia goalkeeper, who failed to grab for the first time.

Ghana lead group G with three points, with South Africa and Zimbabwe on a point each after their draw early on Friday.
