Nick Cox, the head of Manchester United’s academy has been impressed by the progress made by 17-year-old Ghanaian midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
Maino who is of Ghanaian descent was born in England. Although he has represented England at the U-17 and U-18 levels, he is eligible to play for Ghana.
The youngster made his Premier League debut against Leicester City last Sunday having represented Manchester United for the first time ever in January in the Carabao Cup against Charlton Athletic and subsequently in the FA Cup win against Reading.
It is clear that his inclusion in Erik ten Hag’s match-day squads is not by coincidence.
Speaking to the club’s media, Cox said the team is always delighted when a young boy makes a debut, especially when they start a game.
He insists that Mainoo earned his spot against Charlton because it is very difficult to come off the bench than to start a game.
Nick Cox believes Kobbie Mainoo is progressing due to his skill and hard work because the manager does not do favors.
