Jackline Acheampong, well known as Gyakie, is a Ghanaian Afro-Fusion/Afrobeats singer. She began her music career in early 2019 while a student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, studying a B.Sc. in International Business. She will graduate in November 2021.
Gyakie was born on December 16, 1998, in Bompso town in Kumasi. She originally hails from Abuakwa, another town in Kumasi. She is the daughter of Ghanaian highlife legend Ernest ‘Owoahene’ Nana Acheampong, popularly known as Nana Acheampong, one-half of the famous Lumba Brothers.
From an early age, Gyakie had shown signs that she would take after her father as a musician because she had a very sonorous voice while growing up. She was an active member of her church’s choir and served as its lead vocalists.
Gyakie debut single is Love Is Pretty. The song made waves in local radio and TV stations for some weeks. Her debut EP titled SEED was released in August 2020. The EP is a five-track project that showed Gyakie experimenting with different sounds. In 2020, she featured Bisa Kdei on her single, Sor Mi Mu.
“Forever” is one of the songs from her SEED EP that brought her to the limelight as the song appeared on number 4 on Billboard charts. the “Forever” song has currently garnered over 2.7 million views on YouTube.
She has done a remix of the song with fast-rising Nigerian singer Omah Lay, and the video has garnered 412K views just two days after its release.
