Gyo Obata was an American architect, the son of painter Chiura Obata and his wife, Haruko Obata, a floral designer.
He was a co-founder of the world-renowned architect firm HOK. He resided in St. Louis, Missouri, and continued to work at the HOK’s St. Louis office.
Obata has designed a number of noteworthy structures, including the McDonnell Planetarium and GROW Pavilion in the Saint Louis Science Center, the Independence Temple of the Community of Christ church, as well as the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois.
He was born on February 28, 1923, in San Francisco, California, United States.
