In the Rollins Corporation, he is now inducted into the NYSE Hall of Fame, for pioneering the leveraged buyout through the acquisition of Orkin in 1964.

Tippie was born in Belle Plaine, Iowa on the 5th of January 1927. He was raised on a farm in rural Iowa. When he graduated from high school, Tippie joined the Army Air Force on the day prior to D-Day.

He served in the Pacific theater. Following his service during World War II, Tippie used the G.I. Bill to enroll at the University of Iowa, studying to become an CPA.
