Linstead, who was known as a “force of nature” by her loved ones, passed away peacefully on August 6 at her home from a form of leukemia.
Directors like Jane Campion (Dog Power), Gillian Armstrong (Little Women), and Baz Luhrmann (Elvis, Romeo and Juliet) are just a few of the well-known artists who have received support from Linstead.
Linstead, who was born in London in 1938, moved to Australia to pursue a career as an actor with an English touring company.
She quickly came to the conclusion that acting was not for her and instead discovered her calling as a casting director, representing actresses while working for International Casting Services.
Linstead later teamed up with Liz Mullinar to found M&L Casting Consultants, which went on to have a significant impact in the casting of Australian movies like Picnic at Hanging Rock and Sunday Too Far Away as well as productions like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Jesus Christ Superstar.
She co-founded Hilary Linstead & Associates in 1985 with Vicki Harper, and there she represented clients like the actors Gene Kitson, Wendy Harmer, and Magda Szubansky as well as writers Louis Novra and Andrew Bovell.
