British writer whose work includes historical fiction, personal memoirs and short stories, Hilary Mantel, has passed away at the age of 70.
Born on July 6, 1952, in Glossop, United Kingdom, Hilary died on September 22, 2022, at the age of 70 following a massive stroke.
“It is with great sadness that A.M. Heath and HarperCollins announce that bestselling author Dame Hilary Mantel DBE died suddenly yet peacefully yesterday, surrounded by close family and friends, aged 70.
“Hilary Mantel was one of the greatest English novelists of this century and her beloved works are considered modern classics.
“She will be greatly missed,” her friend said in a statement.

The late Hilary Mantel, who wrote twelve novels, two collections of short stories, a personal memoir, and numerous articles and opinion pieces, did not have kids at the time of death.
However, she married twice. She first got married to geologist Gerald McEwen in 1973. They divorced in 1981 but remarried in 1982.
