Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira has promised not to prevent any African player, including Jordan Ayew from playing the Africa Cup of Nations.
A number of clubs and players from African nations are at a conflict over whether to let them leave at the midpoint during the football season.
While some would prefer to postpone the tournament, Vieira insists the Nations Cup is crucial and deserves to be treated with the respect it deserves.
“I respect and understand the passion and the importance to players to go and represent their country, so I will never stop any player going to play the Africa Cup of Nations,” the World Cup winner told the press ahead of their game against Tottenham.
“I believe that that competition needs to be more respected – because this competition is as important as the European Championships.”
Jordan Ayew could be leaving following his departure from the Tottenham match to go with his team-mates in Qatar for the pre-AFCON camp.
The 30-year-old is a key part of the Black Stars, as he remains the most important player for Milovan Rajevac.
Ghana will start their Africa Cup of Nations campaign against Morocco on the 10th of January 2022.
