Arthur Ian Lavender, born on February 16, 1946, in Birmingham, United Kingdom, and passing away on February 2, 2024, at the age of 77, was an English stage, film, and television actor.
His most recognized role was as Private Pike in the BBC sitcom Dad’s Army, and he held the distinction of being the last surviving main cast member of the series after the death of Frank Williams in 2022.

Ian Lavender Parents: Meet Edward Lavender and Kathleen Lavender
Ian Lavender was born to Edward Lavender and Kathleen Lavender. His father, Edward, was born in 1908 and died in 1974 at the age of 66 while his mother, Kathleen, was also born in 1908 and passed away in 1979 at the age of 71.
Ian Lavender enrolled in Bournville Boys Technical School, later known as Bournville Grammar-Technical School for Boys, where he participated in numerous school dramatic productions. He then proceeded to the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, supported by a grant from the City of Birmingham. After completing his studies in 1967, he made appearances on stage in Canterbury.
Growing up, Lavender was a devoted fan of Aston Villa. During the filming of Dad’s Army, he had the privilege of selecting Pike’s scarf from the BBC wardrobe and opted for a claret and blue scarf, reminiscent of Aston Villa’s colors, as a nod to his hometown.
Lavender also had a strong passion for cricket. In recognition of his contributions, he was honored with a star on the Birmingham Walk of Stars on June 22, 2015.
