Nigerian actress, Ini Edo has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be accountable and transparent during the result collation in Saturday’s governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
The actress called on the elections authority to exercise integrity in the course of their work.
She cast her vote at unit 2 Awa Iman ward 1, Onna local government area, Akwa Ibom State. She stated after exercising her franchise that it would not be fair to allow the wrong individuals to govern the state or disenfranchise the people.
She stated that, unlike the presidential elections, voter turnout has been very low.
Ini said it is very unfortunate that Nigerians have completely lost confidence in the INEC. She said a cursory glance on social media reveals that there are a lot of irregularities and that she expects the INEC to be accountable.
The renowned actress stated that she is hoping that to some level, they should be able to prove themselves worthy.
She encouraged them to do the right thing because the world is watching and besides, this state/country is ours, we can’t afford to leave it in the hands of the wrong people.
Ini Edo cautioned that if her advice is not taken, Nigerians will have themselves to blame.
