Is Gary Player Retired? Is Gary Player Still Playing Golf?
Player is a South African retired professional golfer. He retired from tournament golf in 2009.
He won nine major championships on the Champions Tour and nine major championships on the regular tour during his career.
Not only that, but he also won the 1965 U.S. Open and became the only non-American to win all four majors in a career, known as the career Grand Slam, at the age of 29.
Player was the youngest player to do this at the time, though Jack Nicklaus (26) and Tiger Woods (24) subsequently broke this record.
Player became only the third golfer in the history of golf to be the winner of the Career Grand Slam, following Ben Hogan, Gene Sarazen and only Nicklaus as well as Woods have done it since.
He won more than 150 professional championships on six continents over the course of seven years, and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.
