The man who together with his son, gave the world one of its lasting images at a sporting event, by helping his injured son finish the 400-meter semifinal at the 1992 Olympics, Jim Redmond has died aged 81.
Tributes have been pouring in for Jim from the sporting fraternity.
Redmond was given the honor of being the Olympic torch bearer at the 2012 Olympics, two decades after he had helped his son across the finish line.
He was born in Trinidad, the eldest of eight children. He moved to Britain at the age of 14 and took up a job at a wooden packing case manufacturing while taking night classes.
Redmond died on Sunday, 2 October 2022.
