Jimmy Barnes Parents: Jim Swan, Dorothy Swan (Father & Mother)

James Dixon Barnes was born in Glasgow, Scotland on 28 April 1956. He is a Scottish-born Australian musician, singer, and songwriter.

According to James himself, he grew up in a slum-like environment where his mother had five children, including himself, before she turned age 21.

Barnes’s family moved to Australia when he was five years old, initially settling in Adelaide before moving to live near Elizabeth.

Of all the artists on the Australian music market, Barnes is the one with the highest number of hit albums.

James did not start out loving music, it was his older brother John who taught and encouraged him to pursue music.

Jimmy’s father Jim Swan was a Scottish prizefighter. He was a Protestant who lived with his family of seven in Cowcaddens, Scotland, a place Jimmy would later describe as a slum-like environment.

Jim Swan relocated to Australia with his family, where he divorced his wife a little while after arriving.

Dorothy Swan had six children and remarried after her divorce from Jim Swan. She married Reg Barnes, a clerk whose name Jimmy adopted.
