Joseph Steven Sakic was born on 7 July 1969 in Burnaby, British Columbia.
He is a former ice hockey player turned executive. A one-team man, he played for 21 years with the Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche franchise in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Sakic who was named captain of his team in 1992 is widely regarded as one of the greatest team leaders in the history of the competition; he led his team to win the Stanley Cup titles in 1996 and 2001.
Nicknamed “Burnaby Joe”, he was named the most valuable player of the 1996 playoffs and in 2001 by the hockey writers and fellow players as MVP.
As General Manager of the Colorado Avalanche, he won a third Stanley Cup.
Sakic loves to play golf and has a charity that is estimated to have provided over seven million meals to poor children and families.

Mitchell Sakic is one of the two sons of Joe Sakic. He was born in 1996.
He played junior ice hockey at Mullen High School.
He currently works as a scout with the Colorado Avalanche in NHL.
Chase Sakic is the second son of Joe Sakic. He was born on 14 October 2000 in Englewood, Colorado. He also played junior ice hockey with Colorado Thunderbirds and Pursuit of Excellence.
Kamryn Sakic is the only daughter and last child of Joe Sakic. There is not much information about Kamryn at the moment.
