Joseph Anthony Fiorenza was born on 25 January 1931.
He was an American prelate of the Catholic Church who was the seventh bishop and the first archbishop of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston in Texas.
Fiorenza was class president and football team captain while he attended St. Anthony High School in Beaumont.
He then went to St. Mary’s Seminary in La Porte, Texas for further studies.
Fiorenza was ordained to the priesthood on 29 May 1954 and was assigned to Queen of Peace Parish in Houston as assistant pastor.
He went on to rise in rank in the church and retired mandatorily in February 2006.
