Professionally known as Joy Reid, Joy-Ann M. Lomena-Reid was born on 8 December 1968 in New York City.
She is the national correspondent for MSNBC, a cable television host, an author, and a liberal political commentator.
Her book, The Man Who Sold America: Trump & the Unraveling of the American Story was published in 2019.
Reid was raised a Methodist and lived mostly in Denver, Colorado until her mother died when was 17. She studied film at Harvard University.
She worked with a business consulting firm before leaving to begin her career in journalism in 1997 by working for WSVN Channel 7 morning show in South Florida.
Reid also worked for Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign.
Reid was a 2003 Knight Center for Specialized Journalism fellow and is currently the host of The ReidOut, a new Washington-based weeknight show.
