Professionally known as Joy Reid, Joy-Ann M. Lomena-Reid was born on 8 December 1968 in New York City.

She is the national correspondent for MSNBC, a cable television host, an author, and a liberal political commentator.

Her book, The Man Who Sold America: Trump and the Unraveling of the American Story was published in 2019.

Reid was raised a Methodist and lived mostly in Denver, Colorado until her mother died when was 17. She studied film at Harvard University.
