Born on August 27, 1958, in Buffalo, New York, United States, Kathleen Hochul is an American politician serving as the 57th governor of New York since August 24, 2021.
A member of the Democratic Party, she is the first governor from upstate New York since the 1930s as well as New York’s first female governor.
Hochul was appointed Erie County clerk in 2007 after she served on the Hamburg town board and as deputy Erie County clerk.
She was elected to a full term as Erie County clerk in 2007 and reelected in 2010.
On August 24, 2021, Hochul took office as governor of New York after Cuomo resigned amid allegations of sexual harassment. She is running for a full term in 2022 against the Republican nominee, U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin.
