Kate Noelle Holmes was born on 18 December 1978 in Toledo, Ohio. She is an American actress, director, and producer who came to prominence when she starred as Joey Potter in the television series Dawson’s Creek from 1998 to 2003.

Holmes who was baptized a Roman Catholic and attended Christ the King Church in Toledo went to the all-female Notre Dame Academy in Toledo; where her mother also schooled, for her high school education.

She was accepted to Columbia University after she scored 1310 out of 1600 on her SAT, but only attended a summer session. She took modeling classes at the age of 14.
