Hernandez is an American former baseball player who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a first baseman.
He played for the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets during his playing career.
Hernandez was a star athlete in high school, he attended Terra Nova High School for his freshman year before transferring to Capuchino High School.
He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 42nd round of the 1971 Major League Baseball draft after he had played briefly for the College of San Mateo at the college level.
Hernandez is a two-time world series winner and a five-time All-Star.
He retired at the end of the 1990 season.
He has been married twice and divorced twice with three children.
