Dame Kelly Holmes, a retired middle-distance British runner was born on April 19, 1970. She is 52 years old.
Kelly showed exceptional ability in running as a young athlete, winning the English 1,500-meter title at junior and senior levels. With encouragement from her family, she started training with coach Dave Arnold at age 12.
At age 14, declared she wanted to be an Olympic athlete but due to a lack of funding for British sports, she opted for a career outside of athletics and joined the British Army.
In the army, she became an HGV driver than a physical training instructor. She had a reputation in the army for being tough and single-minded in everything she did warning the respect of other recruits and officers above her.
She never called quits on her dream to be an Olympic athlete rather, she competed in Athletic events in the army. In army championships, Kelly was allowed to compete in the men’s 1,500-metre event since none of the women competitors could match her.
She suffered major and minor injuries in her journey to becoming an Olympic Champion. She never gave up no matter how long it took for her to recover from her injuries rather, with a strong will and determined mind she thrived to become the winning Champion of two gold medals in the Olympic Games at Athens for 1,500 meters and 800-meter events in 2004.
