McFadden died on March 25, 2022, at the age of 61 from polycystic kidney disease, which he has been balling for the past five to six years.
McFadden played for Washington State University under coach George Raveling in the United States.
After his college days, McFadden moved to New Zealand in 1982 and joined his first team, the Wellington Saints. At the Saints, he served as player-coach and had four championships won during the 1980s.
He was retired in 1996, and in the early 2000s, was active in the development of junior players. Young players he has worked with throughout New Zealand include future NBA center Steven Adams.
In the years 2010 and 2011, McFadden worked as an assistant coach with The Wellington Saints under coach Pero Cameron.
