Ketanji Brown Jackson is an American attorney and jurist who has served as a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit since 2021.

Jackson is from Washington, DC, the U.S., she was born on September 14, 1970, in Washington, D.C., and raised in Miami, Florida, Jackson attended Harvard University for college and law school, in which she served as an editor for the Harvard Law Review.

Her legal career began by completing three clerkships, including U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Stephen Breyer.

Prior to her promotion to an appellate court from 2013 until 2021, she served as a District Judge for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.

Jackson was also vice-chair of the United States Sentencing Commission from 2010 until 2014. Since 2016, she’s been an official member of the Harvard Board of Overseers.

In 1996 Jackson got married to surgeon Patrick G. Jackson, whose family is considered as Boston Brahmin. Through her union, she is related to former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.

Patrick Jackson is descended from Jonathan Jackson, a delegate to the Continental Congress, and is related to the Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.

The couple has two daughters named Talia Jackson and Leila Jackson., but there are no details of them anywhere on the web.

Johnny Brown and Ellery Brown are Brown Jackson parents. Both parents were graduates of historically black universities and colleges. Ketajh Brown is the only brother and sibling of the judge.

Her father, Johnny Brown, was a lawyer who eventually was appointed the chief attorney of the Miami-Dade County School Board; her mother, Ellery, served as school director at the New World School of the Arts.

While in college, her uncle Thomas Brown Jr. was sentenced to life imprisonment for a nonviolent conviction of cocaine. Later, Jackson persuaded a law firm to consider his case for free, and president Barack Obama eventually commuted his sentence. Another uncle, Calvin Ross, served as Miami’s police chief.

Jackson grew up in Miami, Florida, and graduated from Miami Palmetto Senior High School, in 1988. She won the National Catholic Forensic League Championships New Orleans oratory title in her senior year. This was the second-largest high-school debate tournament in the United States.

After completing high school, Jackson studied government at Harvard University. She was a comedian and took drama classes. She also led protests against a student who displayed the Confederate flag in his dorm window. Jackson received an A.B. in 1992. magna cum laude, he was the author of a senior thesis titled “The Hand of Oppression: Plea bargaining Processes as well as the Coercion of Criminal Defendants”.

Jackson was a Time magazine staff reporter and researcher from 1992 to 1993. She then went on to Harvard Law School, where she was the Harvard Law Review’s supervising editor. In 1996, she graduated with a Juris Doctor cum-laude.
