Lucia Kay McBath was born in Joliet, Illinois, on June 1, 1960, as Lucia Kay Holman. She is a politician, serving as the U.S. representative from Georgia’s 6th congressional district.
In 1982, McBath graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from the Virginia State University. She worked with then Virginia governor Douglas Wilder as an intern after college.
She worked as a flight attendant for Delta Air Lines in the 1990s and moved to Atlanta, where Delta Air Lines had its headquarters.
McBath is a two time cancer survivor and a deeply religious person. Lucia lost her son in November 2012 due to gun violence during an argument at a gas station.
This prompted her to go on a gun control campaign, joining other mothers of black murder victims.

Lucien Hamilton Holman and Wilma Cecelia Holman are the father and mother of Lucy McBath respectively.
Her father, Lucien, was a dentist who owned a newspaper called The Black Voice. He was born on 8 March 1920 in Alton, Madison County, Illinois.
Wilma Holman was a nurse.
