Mackenzie James Horton was born on 25 April 1996 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He is an Australian freestyle swimmer who has won medals at the World Championships, and Commonwealth Games and is an Olympics gold medalist.
Horton became the first male swimmer from the state of Victoria to win an Olympic gold medal when he won the 400m freestyle at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
The 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu was where Horton first represented Australia; he won gold in the 1500-meter freestyle. His first senior appearance was at the 2014 Australian Swimming Championship where he again won the 1500-meter freestyle.
Horton is coached by Michael Bohl and is a member of the Griffith University Swimming Club. He is nicknamed Mack the Knife.
