Margaret Mary Urlich was born on 24 January 1965 in Auckland, New Zealand. She is a New Zealand musician.
Urlich left New Zealand at the age of 23 to Sydney, Australia to pursue her music career and has since then been based in New South Wales, Australia.
She is ranked as one of the most successful recording artists to have come out of New Zealand. Her cousin is singer Peter Urlich who is a New Zealand artist.
Urlich’s musical career began as a vocalist for a group called Peking Man, which comprised her brother Pat, Tim Calder, Perry Marshall, Jan Foulkes, Neville Hall, John Fearon, and Jay F-bula.
She joined When The Cat’s Away, an all-girls pop group. Her maiden solo album titled Safety in Numbers was released in 1989 in Australia; the album went triple platinum.
Urlich won an ARIA Award in 1991 for “Best Breakthrough Artist”. She was signed onto Columbia Records.
