Mary Marsha Blackburn was born on 6 June 1952 in Laurel, Mississippi.
She is an American politician and businesswoman serving as a senior United States senator from Tennessee.
Blackburn is the first woman to be elected to the United States House-Senate from Tennessee. She attended high school at the Northeast Jones High School, where she participated in a beauty pageant and placed fourth.
She then went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics from the Mississippi State University where she was elected both as secretary and president of the Associated Women Students.
While still in college, Blacked had a job as a sales manager for the Times Mirror Company. She later started a promotion-event management company called Marketing Strategies.
Blackburn won the seat in the U.S House of representatives by nearly 20 percentage points in 2002.
She is a Presbyterian.
